Review by Saifulloh Rifai

Tristezza, the album by the Hungarian pianist Gyorgy Cziffra, is a collection of classical pieces that showcase his virtuosic skills and emotional depth. The album includes works by Schumann, Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff, among others, and Cziffra's interpretations are both technically brilliant and emotionally resonant.

Listeners are immediately struck by Cziffra's precise and powerful playing, which captures the full range of dynamics and colors in each piece. His rendition of Schumann's "Kinderszenen" is particularly noteworthy, as he brings out the playful and nostalgic qualities of the music with a light touch and delicate phrasing.

But it is in the more melancholic pieces that Cziffra truly shines. His performances of Chopin's "Nocturne in C-sharp minor" and Rachmaninoff's "Prelude in G minor" are hauntingly beautiful, with a sense of longing and sorrow that is palpable. Cziffra's ability to convey such complex emotions through his playing is a testament to his mastery of the piano.
