Sweden native Natalie Gardiner began writing and singing at an early age and was raised on her mother's large jazz, soul and funk record collection. A move to Stockholm was followed by dues paying as Gardiner gigged with numerous bands and collaborated with various Swedish producers which included noted beat-smith RMJC, who signed her to his Ramjac label. Gardiner's self-titled debut dropped shortly thereafter in 2004 and was well received and embraced by international music tastemaker Gilles Peterson. Gardiner then released her sophomore effort "California," a collection of deep soul music punctuated by intricate beats, personally intimate lyrics and her trademark seductive vocal style. With a style reminiscent of Sade and Marlena Shaw, Gardiner delivers on tracks such as "Summer Rain," "On the Low, "Slowly Softly" and the album's magnum opus "Fading Hours." "California" would go on to critical acclaim and international underground success and would hail Gardiner as a songstress in possission of one of the most unique voices in progressive soul music.
